Expanding legal access to and use of ATVs, Dirt Bikes and UTVs in Washington, DC.

About #DC #BikeLifeCampaign #BLC #DCBLC

What will the DC #BikeLife Initiative Change?

Currently, DC law forbids the Operation & Registration of ATVs, Dirt Bikes and UTVs (Multipurpose Off-Highway Utility Vehicles) within the District of Columbia.

DC Bike Life Access and Use of Non-Traditional Vehicles Act of 2018's goal is to ask DC voters if residents who are licensed to drive should also be allowed to register our ATVs, Dirt Bikes and UTVs, operate our ATVs, Dirt Bikes and UTVs on public roads in a limited capacity (on roads with speeds of 45mph and below without "M" endorsement on license) and in a limited capacity on Highways within the District of Columbia. DC residents will also be able to park non-traditional vehicles on private space or public parking garages within the District of Columbia.

Currently, if you are observed riding one of these vehicles you can be arrested. Additionally, your property will be seized and destroyed by the Metropolitan Police Department. The MPD has also created financial incentives for citizens who provide information leading to arrests and property seizures if your are found to be operating or possessing a Dirt Bike or ATV.

DC Bike Life Campaign has drafted language and submitted it for approval by the DC Board of Elections. Once approved we will have to collect 24,000 signatures from DC registered voters by mid-July.

Once we have turned in these signatures, the Board of Elections will review them & DC residents will have the opportunity to vote on the "DC Bike Life Access and Use of Non-Traditional Vehicles Act of 2018" on November 6, 2018.
